Welcome to the POP4 MSA

"POP4" is the new multi-source agreement (MSA) providing a common specification for 4-channel, pluggable, parallel fiber optic transceivers addressing the growing demand for data capacity in today’s Networking and Telecommunication equipment markets. These transceivers support applications such as next generation scalable switch-router backplane interconnections together with cost-effective 10 Gb/s Very-Short-Reach (VSR) physical layer interfaces.

Each module contains a transmitter and receiver section with 4 channels, each operating at up to 2.7 Gbps. The aggregate full-duplex bandwidth of the module is 10.8 Gb/s. Both the fiber and electrical connections are based on industry standard interfaces. The transceiver receptacle has the popular MTP®/MPO connector while the electrical signal I/O is accommodated by utilizing the 10x10 Meg-Array® connector system manufactured by FCI-Berg.

Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) source technology is employed to transmit data up to 300 meters over industry standard, multimode fiber.

The POP4 technical document is intended for public use by Networking Equipment Manufacturers, system integrators and component vendors alike.
